Helvellyn is a mountain in the English Lake District, the highest point of the Helvellyn range, a north–south line of mountains to the north of Ambleside, between the lakes of Thirlmere and Ullswater.

Striding Edge

A classic and exhilarating route starting from Glenridding, ascending via the sharp arête of Striding Edge to Helvellyn's summit. This Grade 1 scramble offers breathtaking views but requires a head for heights and sure-footedness.
This circular route begins in Glenridding and climbs via Catstye Cam, then ascends Helvellyn via the Swirral Edge ridge. Less exposed than Striding Edge but still requires care.
A more straightforward ascent from Glenridding following Mires Beck, passing Birkhouse Moor, and joining the ridge near Hole-in-the-Wall before reaching Helvellyn via Striding Edge (optional) or bypass paths.
Large pay-and-display car park close to the Ullswater Information Centre. Provides good access to eastern routes up Helvellyn, including Striding Edge and Swirral Edge.
